About Us
Heidi Embley, APR started her professional career sharing stories of others and now uses the skills she’s honed over the past 18 years to help others effectively share their stories.
Heidi served as the senior director of Communications (also referred to as an executive director or chief communications officer) for the Anchorage School District. Her focus was on strategic, internal and external communication, crisis communication, media relations, and highlighting the great things accomplished by staff and students every day. Heidi’s work, and that of her team, earned numerous awards for excellence in public relations and communications.
Prior to her 12 years at ASD, she worked as a television news reporter for the local CBS affiliate. Heidi shared a variety of hard news and feature stories about and to Alaskans.
In 2017, she launched Embley Communications to support businesses and organizations across Alaska that do not have public relations staff on their payroll but understand and value high-quality communication.
Heidi earned her Accreditation in Public Relations in 2019 to further demonstrate her knowledge of communication best practices, dedication to advancing the profession and commitment to the highest level of ethics.
She volunteers her time with several local non-profit organizations and in 2017 was awarded the Bruce Pozzi Chapter Service Award by the Alaska Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. She was named one of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce’s Top 40 Under 40 (an award which she sadly no longer qualifies).
Heidi graduated from high school in Anchorage and earned a degree in journalism from the University of Oregon. Go Ducks! She is married and has two kids who keep life fast-paced and full of laughs.
